Ynys Môn communities among Welsh locations set for ultrafast upgrade

Openreach recently announced the latest set of rural Welsh locations that could soon become ultrafast with the support of UK Government broadband vouchers and a number of Ynys Môn communities were included.

Openreach is urging people living in Llangoed and Bodorgan to get behind a bid to bring ultrafast, ultra-reliable full fibre broadband to local homes and businesses.

In total thirty communities across Wales making up nearly 17,000 properties in some of the most rural parts of Wales could take advantage of this ultrafast upgrade.

The company is warning that these communities risk missing out on a once-in-a-lifetime full fibre upgrade, if they don’t apply for free UK Government broadband vouchers, which can be used to secure faster speeds and greater reliability.

If enough people sign up, the latest communities will join more than 816,000 homes and businesses across Wales who already have access to full fibre broadband.

Funding through the UK Governments Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme and the deployment of new broadband signal boosting technology* – which can extend the reach of the full fibre network,  means thousands more remote rural communities are now within reach of the ultrafast technology.

Openreach has identified the latest Welsh villages & towns as being within scope for Full Fibre and is urging local people to take the next step by applying for and pooling together free Government Gigabit Vouchers to help fund the build.[1]

Residents can check if they qualify and pledge their voucher on the Connect My Community website. Using the vouchers – which don’t cost residents anything , enables Openreach to work with a local community to build a customised, co-funded network. The vouchers can be combined to extend the ultrafast, ultra-reliable network to premises in outlying rural areas which won’t be covered by private investment.

Martin Williams, Director of Partnerships for Openreach in Wales, said: “This is a really exciting opportunity for these locations to bring all the benefits of ultrafast, ultra-reliable full fibre broadband to their community.

“Our Fibre Community Partnership programme has meant that we’ve been able to potentially bring hundreds more communities across the UK, into our Full Fibre build plans. But building out the network to these harder to reach locations is still challenging – which is why its only possible with everyone working together  – you, your neighbours and Openreach.

“Everyone who pledges a voucher will be doing their bit to help make their community one of the best-connected places in the UK.”

“We’re investing £15 billion to build full fibre broadband to 25 million homes – and more than six million of those will be in the toughest third of the UK – but we can’t upgrade the whole country alone. This latest support from government is a vital part of that process.”

Once the pledge target for the scheme is reached, residents need to ensure they then validate their vouchers with the Government so that Openreach can confirm that building work can get underway. As part of the funding conditions residents are asked to commit to ordering a full fibre service from a provider of their choice for at least 12 months once the new network is available, and confirm that they are connected.

Among those communities that have already taken advantage of this community initiative is Kerry in Powys who recently pledged the required number of vouchers needed to enable Openreach to start work.

It was recently announced that 44,000 homes and businesses across Wales are benefiting from improved connectivity thanks to a successful partnership between Openreach and the Welsh Government.

Full fibre technology provides more reliable, resilient and future-proof connectivity; meaning fewer faults; more predictable, consistent speeds and enough capacity to easily meet growing data demands. It's also future-proof, which means it will serve generations to come and won’t need to be upgraded for decades.

Fibre optics - strands of glass around one-tenth the thickness of a human hair - transmit data using light signals. Fibre is smaller, lighter and more durable than copper cabling and less vulnerable to damage. This short video explains what full fibre technology is and there’s more info here.

Cymunedau Ynys Môn ymhlith y lleoliadau i gael band eang tra-chyflym

 

Yn ddiweddar, cyhoeddodd Openreach enwau’r lleoliadau gwledig nesaf i gael band eang tra-chyflym gyda chymorth talebau Llywodraeth y Deyrnas Unedig, gyda nifer o gymunedau Gwynedd ar y rhestr.

Mae Openreach yn annog trigolion Bodorgan a Llangoed i gefnogi cynnig i ddarparu band eang ffeibr cyflawn tra-chyflym ar gyfer cartrefi a busnesau lleol.

At ei gilydd, bydd 30 cymuned ar draws y wlad yn cynnwys bron 17,000 cartref mewn rhai o ardaloedd mwyaf gwledig Cymru yn gallu elwa o’r datblygiad.

Ond mae’r cwmni yn rhybuddio gallai’r cymunedau fethu cyfle unwaith-mewn-bywyd i uwchraddio i fand eang ffeibr cyflawn os na fyddant yn cynnig am dalebau band eang di-dâl Llywodraeth y Deyrnas Unedig er mwyn hawlio’r gwasanaeth cyflym a dibynadwy.

Os bydd digon o bobl yn arwyddo, bydd y cymunedau diweddaraf hyn yn ymuno â dros 816,000 cartref a busnes ar draws y wlad sydd eisoes yn gallu cael band eang ffeibr cyflawn.

Bydd cyllid Cynllun Talebau Band Eang Gigabeit Llywodraeth y Deyrnas Unedig a thechnoleg cyfnerthu signal band eang newydd* yn ymestyn cyrraedd y rhwydwaith ffeibr cyflawn ac yn golygu bydd miloedd o gymunedau gwledig diarffodd yn dod o fewn cyrraedd y dechnoleg newydd.

Mae Openreach wedi nodi bod y rhestr ddiweddaraf o bentrefi a threfi Cymreig o fewn cyrraedd ffeibr cyflawn ac yn annog pobl leol i gymryd y cam nesaf wrth ymgeisio am a chronni talebau gigabeit y Llywodraeth er mwyn helpu i ariannu’r gwaith adeiladu.[1]

Mae trigolion yn gallu gwirio eu cymhwyster ac addo talebau ar wefan Connect My Community. Bydd addo’r talebau di-dâl yn galluogi Openreach i gydweithio â chymuned leol i adeiladu rhwydwaith ar gyfer yr ardal. Gellir cyfuno’r talebau i ymestyn y rhwydwaith tra-chyflym i ardaloedd gwledig diarffordd na fydd yn destun buddsoddiad preifat.

Dywedodd Martin Williams, cyfarwyddwr partneriaethau Openreach Cymru: “Dyma gyfle cyffrous i’r lleoliadau hyn fwynhau holl fuddion band eang cyflym a dibynadwy o fewn eu cymunedau.

“Mae ein rhaglen Partneriaeth Ffeibr Cymunedol yn golygu byddwn yn gallu cynnwys cannoedd o gymunedau ychwanegol ar draws y Deyrnas Unedig o fewn ein cynlluniau ffeibr cyflawn. Ond bydd ymestyn y rhwydwaith i gyrraedd y lleoliadau anodd hyn yn dal yn heriol - a dyna pam bydd rhaid cael pawb i gydweithio - sef chi, eich cymdogion ac Openreach.

“Bydd pawb sy’n addo taleb yn helpu i ddarparu cysylltedd gwell ar gyfer eu cymuned.”

Unwaith bydd cynllun yn cyrraedd y targed talebau, bydd angen i’r trigolion ddilysu eu talebau gyda’r Llywodraeth er mwyn galluogi Openreach i ddechrau’r gwaith adeiladu. Fel rhan o amodau’r cyllid, gofynnir y trigolion i ymrwymo i archebu gwasanaeth ffeibr cyflawn gan y cwmni o’u dewis am o leiaf 12 mis ar ôl darparu’r rhwydwaith newydd, a chadarnhau eu cysylltiad.

Ymhlith y cymunedau sydd eisoes wedi bachu ar gyfleoedd y fenter gymunedol hon, mae pentref Ceri (Powys) a lwyddodd i addo’r cyfanswm talebau angenrheidiol er galluogi Openreach i ddechrau gwaith.

Yn ddiweddar cyhoeddwyd bod 44,000 cartref a busnes drwy Gymru yn elwa o gysylltedd gwell yn dilyn sefydlu partneriaeth lwyddiannus rhwng Openreach a Llywodraeth Cymru.

Mae technoleg ffeibr cyflawn yn darparu cysylltedd sy’n fwy dibynadwy a chadarn, yn barod ar gyfer y dyfodol; gyda llai o namau; mwy dibynadwy, cyflymder cyson a chynhwysedd digonol er diwallu’r galw cynyddol yn y dyfodol, gan wasanaethu’r genedl am ddegawdau.

Ffeibr optig - edafedd gwydr tebyg o ran maint i wallt pobl - sy’n trosglwyddo data ar ffurf signalau golau. Mae ffeibr yn llai, ysgafnach ac yn fwy cadarn - ac yn llai tebygol o ddioddef difrod. Dyma fideo byr yn esbonio technoleg ffeibr cyflawn a manylion pellach yma.
