Openreach brings festive cheer to young people in Leicester

Kind-hearted Openreach staff in Leicester are bringing festive cheer to local children.

They’ve collected more than 50 presents to donate to the Salvation Army’s Christmas Present Appeal, which provides gifts to children that may otherwise have gone without this year.

It marks the end of a successful 12 months of fundraising by the Openreach customer service team based on Humberstone Road. They’ve supported a number of local good causes during 2017, and last month raised more than £1000 for Children in Need.

Luke Moore, who works in Openreach’s customer service team in Leicester, said: “We do a lot for charity as a team and we had a brilliant response to the toy appeal. It’s sad to think that some children may not get a gift at all this Christmas so we were determined to collect as many presents as we could do or the Salvation Army appeal.”

The Salvation Army Christmas Present Appeal is an annual event that has benefited millions of children and young people over the years.

It gives people the chance to donate new unwrapped toys and gifts to the charity, which will wrap and distribute them to local children who might not otherwise receive a Christmas present.

A spokesperson from the Salvation Army said: "The Salvation Army are extremely grateful to everyone that supported their Christmas Toy Appeal in Leicester this year, including the engineers from Openreach. The toys donated will make their way to disadvantaged children in the local area."
