Grantham MP visits Openreach broadband build in Corby Glen

More than 100,000 Lincolnshire homes and business can now get Full Fibre

MP Gareth Davies has visited Openreach engineers to see the work they’re doing to build a new Ultrafast Full Fibre broadband network across his Grantham and Stamford constituency.

He visited the rural Lincolnshire village of Corby Glen to see how the community are benefitting from having some of fastest and most reliable broadband available anywhere in the UK.

People living there can now benefit from Ultrafast full fibre, which enables them to stay connected, benefit from faster speeds and greater reliability, and use multiple devices at once without any slowdowns or buffering.

The MP also met with members of both Corby Glen Parish Council and Lincolnshire County Council, before trying his hand at fibre splicing – where two ends of fibre optic glass cable no wider than a human hair are fused together.

This delicate piece of engineering plays a vital role in Openreach’s Full Fibre network that’s already reached more than 100,000 properties across Lincolnshire – an investment of £30 million.

Building a full fibre network to Corby Glen took Openreach engineers around 4 months and involved connecting up more than 450 homes and businesses.

Gareth Davies MP, said: “I’m pleased to see the progress being made by Openreach to deliver full fibre across my constituency and here in Corby Glen. It’s vital that local people take advantage of this new technology as it becomes available.

“This is a significant local investment and great news for people living and working across the whole of Lincolnshire – in both our urban and rural communities.

“I look forward to even more progress being made so that all of my constituents can have the best access to digital services for employment, education and entertainment, as soon as possible.”

The visit was hosted by Wendy Sycamore, Openreach’s regional engagement manager, who said: “We welcomed the opportunity to give Gareth a tour of our ultrafast network in Corby Glen and explain more about the build. Our engineers worked hard to connect this community and it was great to share their story with the local MP.

“We were also able to discuss future plans for other parts of his constituency, including Grantham, where our fibre build teams are headed soon.”

Full fibre is the UK's most reliable[1] broadband technology, so people will experience a lot less buffering and slowdown at busier times.

The Openreach network offers the UK’s biggest choice of Full Fibre broadband providers including the likes of BT, Sky, TalkTalk, Vodafone and Zen.

Residents can enjoy a host of online services and entertainment, with seamless streaming and smooth online gaming. The technology also supports day-to-day, business critical tasks like video calls, banking and online customer interactions.

Openreach has plans to build Full Fibre to 25 million homes and businesses nationwide by December 2026.

Openreach has more than 1,600 engineers working across the East Midlands, including most communities in Lincolnshire.
