Warwickshire MP gets to grips with Openreach broadband build

MP Jeremy Wright has visited Openreach engineers to see the work they’re doing to build a new Ultrafast Full Fibre broadband network in parts of his Warwickshire constituency of Kenilworth and Southam.

He visited the small rural community of Honiley to see how villagers are benefitting from some of fastest and most reliable broadband available anywhere in the UK.

People living there can now benefit from Ultrafast full fibre, which enables them to stay connected, benefit from faster speeds and greater reliability, and use multiple devices at once without any slowdowns or buffering.

Jeremy Wright MP said: “I enjoyed being out with the Openreach team, first to the Warwick telephone exchange, and then out and about looking at the new kit they're starting to install in Honiley. Full fibre brings many benefits to local communities, and I’m pleased to see things starting to come together across my constituency.

“Being able to have a go at splicing two pieces of fibre was a useful insight into the technical aspects of delivering this important service."

Jeremy Wright MP also joined Openreach in urging people living in nearby communities – including Haseley Knob, Beausale, Wroxall and Five Ways – to secure full fibre for their homes and businesses.

They risk missing out on a once-in-a-lifetime Full Fibre upgrade if enough people don’t apply for free UK Government broadband vouchers, which can be used to secure faster speeds and greater reliability.

Residents can check if they qualify and pledge their voucher
on the Connect My Community website.

More than 85% of the required pledges have already been made, but more are needed if the communities are to join more than 83,000 homes and businesses across Warwickshire that can already access full fibre broadband.

The MP visit was hosted by Kasam Hussain, Openreach’s regional director for Central England, who said: “It was a fantastic visit with Jeremy Wright. The future is bright for Warwickshire with ultrafast speeds and unparalleled reliability just around the corner. Our dedicated engineers work hard every day to keep communities across the county and the wider region connected.

“If you live in any of the areas that we’re working with, please pledge your government broadband voucher. It doesn’t cost you anything but means Openreach can build a full fibre network to benefit you now and for decades to come.”

With speeds reaching up to 1 Gbps, full fibre means everyone can enjoy lightning-fast downloads, crystal-clear video calls, and seamless movie streaming in high resolution.

There’s also no more slowdowns or buffering. Everyone can be online at the same time, streaming, gaming, or making video calls, without any interruptions.
