04 Dec 2018

Celebrating our Openreach colleagues for their fundraising efforts

We’d like to thank the team of Openreach colleagues who took part in the SSAFA fundraising trek in Nepal for their outstanding fundraising efforts. The group took on the Helambu trail through the Nepalese Himalayas and raised over £50,000 in aid of SSAFA, the armed forces charity.

Who are SSAFA?

SSAFA works to ensure that the service men and women, veterans and families of the armed forces receive appropriate, affective and timely support. Every penny donated to team’s fundraising efforts helps to fund “Forcesline”, a confidential helpline that ensures the charity are always there to help whenever we are needed.

Openreach manager Philip Whittall commented: “This was one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve been involved with, from the feeling of achievement after the physical challenge, to the pride I feel knowing that we’ve raised over £52,000 for SSAFA. I encourage anyone to take up the next trek, so they can feel the emotional highs that I’ve felt since.”

"This was one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve been involved with. I encourage anyone to take up the next trek."

Nic Price, an Openreach finance manager, also added: “There was a great sense of camaraderie amongst the Openreach group, which helped pull team members through some of gruelling part of the trek, including the sub-zero temperatures we camped in at night. Team members took part for many different reasons which meant for a very inspired experience with colleagues.”
