Openreach are offering Swansea residents faster broadband speeds

Thousands of homes and businesses across Swansea will benefit from world leading Full Fibre broadband (Fibre to the Premises – FTTP). The new technology, which delivers fibre directly to people’s homes and businesses, will offer more reliable and resilient connections, and future-proof Swansea’s network.

"The fibre connection will future-proof the homes and businesses of Swansea for decades to come."

Hear from local councils, businesses, chambers of commerce and our Openreach teams about building the new network, and the differences it will make to the city.

What speeds are they getting?

FTTP brings speeds of up to 1Gbps which is about 24 times faster than the current UK average of 46Mbps. The fibre connection will future-proof the homes and businesses of Swansea for decades to come and ensure that the city remains competitive on the national and world stage.

What people are saying about this

Rob Stewart, Swansea City Council leader said: “Swansea is a city of ambition and we want to become a hotbed of innovation. This investment by Openreach in Swansea will provide us with the best internet connectivity possible and enable companies to turbo charge their business opportunities.”

Welsh Government leader of the house with responsibility for digital, Julie James, also said: “This is great news for Swansea, as it will be able to benefit from some of the fastest broadband speeds available. Wales already leads the way with fast fibre broadband as we have the largest rural fibre to the premises network in the UK with speeds of over 100Mbps as a result of our Superfast Cymru programme.

“It’s good to see Openreach taking this further by investing their new Fibre First technology in Swansea.”

Swansea joins 13 other areas across the UK to benefit from our multimillion pound fibre investment.
