Meet Elle

Elle wanted to challenge herself. She wanted to pick up new skills and start an exciting and fulfilling career – so she became one of our trainee engineers. Listen to what she has to say about her experience.

Meet Arrondeep

Arrondeep worked in ICT for a few years but was inspired to join us when he saw one of our engineers at work. He’s got big ambitions for the future – hear him talk about them in his own words.

Being a trainee engineer

As a trainee engineer, you’ll spend your days building the connections that people rely on. You’ll solve problems, get to know the community you serve, and experience new challenges every day.

The type of people we're looking for

Before you take the plunge and apply to join us as a trainee engineer, let’s take a look at the kind of person who’ll thrive in this role.

We’re looking for people who love a bit of adventure in their work – who enjoy working outside and don’t mind getting their hands dirty. People who love knowing how things work and how to fix them if they’re broken. People who are fascinated by learning how to use new systems and tools, and, most importantly, people who work best as part of a team.

A day in the life

As a trainee engineer your days will be varied. You might spend your morning in someone’s home, reconnecting them to the world and making their day, before heading off to a local small business and fixing a network problem. While no two days will be the same, you’ll really get to know your patch and the community you serve. As you solve different problems for different customers, you’ll be making connections everywhere you go.

The starting salary for our trainee engineers is £23,345, with extra allowances for working in London and the Scottish Islands. We’ll also work with you to develop your career, leading to the chance to earn even higher salaries in the future.
