Ultrafast broadband speeds into Llantrisant

Residents of Llantrisant and the surrounding area will soon become the latest to benefit from the ultrafast, ultra-reliable Full Fibre broadband that Openreach engineers are currently installing up and down the country
A number of residents in the town can already access the lightning speeds that Openreach’s Full Fibre network enable and local politicians, Mick Antoniw MS and Alex Davies Jones MP, recently joined Openreach engineers to witness first-hand some of the work that goes into building the infrastructure.
The new broadband technology will future-proof homes and businesses across the Rhondda Cynon Taf county for decades to come and bring with it access to some of the fastest broadband speeds in Europe.
Openreach engineers are building a brand new ultrafast, ultra-reliable full fibre network directly from the Llantrisant exchange to serve nearly 9000 properties in the town and surrounding communities.
Providing download speeds of up to one gigabit per second (Gbps), the new network is capable of speeds ten times faster than the average home broadband connection, which means people can surf, shop, game, play, click, teach, talk, work, create, learn, buy, sell and watch without skipping a beat or slowing down.
During his tour of the new full fibre network in Llantrisant, Mick Antoniw MS, said:
“Openreach are making a significant investment in its Full Fibre network across Wales and I’ve been impressed to see how hard their local engineers are working to bring ultrafast broadband to Llantrisant and the surrounding area.”
“Digital connectivity is transforming the way we live and I’m clear that it is vital that the benefits this new infrastructure are extended to all parts of the Pontypridd constituency as soon as possible. I would urge residents and businesses to take advantage of ultrafast broadband as soon as it becomes available to them.”
Alex Davies-Jones MP said:
“There’s no doubt that this will help strengthen our economy and transform the way we work, shop and learn online. As Shadow Minister for Tech in Parliament, it has been really interesting to see some of the challenges that Openreach are facing, along with the incredible work that goes in to bringing ultrafast broadband to all of us across Pontypridd and RCT.”
Connie Dixon, Openreach’s Partnership Director for Wales, who hosted the visit to Llantrisant said: “We were delighted to be able to show both Mick and Alex some of the work that goes into our Full Fibre build.”
“We’re very proud to be building Full Fibre broadband faster, further and at a higher quality than any company in Wales and we’re reaching more communities than ever with our team of highly-skilled locally employed engineers.”
Openreach is well on track to reach 25 million UK homes and businesses with access to Full Fibre ultrafast broadband by December 2026 and has already reached more than 425,000 properties across Wales.
With a workforce of around 2,300 across Wales, Openreach already employs the nation’s largest team of telecoms engineers and professionals. The business recently announced that it would create and fill around 250 additional jobs throughout Wales during 2022 as it continues to invest billions of pounds into its UK broadband network, people and training.
Across Wales more than 100,000 homes and businesses have already ordered a full fibre service from a range of retail service providers using the Openreach network. But this means that thousands more could be benefiting from some of the fastest, most reliable broadband connections in Europe and have yet to upgrade.
Recent research by the Centre for Economics and Business Research (Cebr) highlighted the clear economic benefits of connecting everyone in Wales to full fibre. It estimated this would create a £2 billion boost to the Welsh economy.

Cyn bo hir bydd trigolion Llantrisant a’r ardal gyfagos yn croesawu band eang ffeibr cyflawn y mae peirianwyr Openreach yn gosod ar hyd a lled y wlad.
Mae nifer o drigolion y dref eisoes yn mwynhau’r band eang cyflym mae rhwydwaith ffeibr cyflawn Openreach yn darparu ac yn ddiweddar aeth y gwleidyddion lleol, Mick Antoniw (Aelod Senedd) ac Alex Davies Jones (Aelod Seneddol), i weld gwaith peirianwyr Openreach i ledu’r rhwydwaith ar draws yr ardal.
Bydd y dechnoleg yn diogelu cysylltedd cartrefi a busnesau Rhondda Cynon Taf am ddegawdau ac yn darparu band eang yn cymharu â’r cyflymaf yn Ewrop.
Mae peirianwyr Openreach yn lledu’r rhwydwaith ffeibr cyflawn cyflym a dibynadwy yn syth o gyfnewidfa Llantrisant i wasanaethu oddeutu 9000 cartref a busnes yn y dref a’r ardal leol.
Wrth lwytho data ar gyflymder hyd at un gigabeit yr eiliad (Gbps), bydd y rhwydwaith newydd yn gallu gweithredu ar gyflymder 10 gwaith yn gyflymach na’r cysylltiad band eang cartref cyfartalog, sy’n golygu bydd pobl yn gallu syrffio, siopa, chwarae gemau, clicio, dysgu, sgwrsio, gweithio, creu, prynu, gwerthu a gwylio heb oedi neu arafu.
Wrth ymweld â rhwydwaith ffeibr newydd Llantrisant, dywedodd Mick Antoniw (Aelod Senedd):
“Mae Openreach yn buddsoddi’n helaeth er mwyn darparu rhwydwaith ffeibr cyflawn drwy Gymru ac mae’n galonogol gweld pa mor galed mae’r peirianwyr lleol yn gweithio i ddarparu band eang tra-chyflym yn Llantrisant a’r ardal gyfagos.”
“Mae cysyltedd digidol yn trawsnewid ein bywydau a bydd yn hanfodol cynnig buddion y rhwydwaith newydd ym mhob rhan o etholaeth Pontypridd cyn gynted â phosibl. Rwy’n argymell trigolion a busnesau i fachu ar gyfleoedd band eang ffeibr pan fydd ar gael iddynt.”
Dywedodd Alex Davies-Jones (Aelod Seneddol):
“Mae’n sicr bydd hyn yn helpu i gryfhau’r economi a thrawsnewid ein dulliau gweithio, siopa a dysgu arlein. Fel Gweinidog Technoleg yr Wrthblaid, rwyf wedi nodi’r heriau mae Openreach yn taclo, ynghyd â’r gwaith anhygoel i ledu band eang ffeibr cyflawn ar draws ardaloedd Pontypridd a Rhondda Cynon Taf.”
Dywedodd Connie Dixon, Cyfarwyddwraig Partneriaethau Cymru Openreach, a groesawodd yr ymweliad â Llantrisant: “Roeddem yn falch iawn o ddangos Mick ac Alex ein gwaith i adeiladu’r rhwydwaith ffeibr cyflawn.”
“Nid oes unrhyw gwmni yng Nghymru yn gosod ffeibr cyflawn yn gyflymach, yn bellach neu o safon uwch nag Openreach. Rydym yn cyrraedd mwy o gymunedau nag erioed, gyda’n tîm o beirianwyr lleol galluog.”

Yng Nghymru mae dros 100,000 cartref a busnes eisoes wedi archebu gwasanaeth ffeibr cyflawn gan amryw gwmnïau gwasanaeth sy’n defnyddio rhwydwaith Openreach. Ond mae hynny hefyd yn golygu gallai miloedd o bobl eraill elwa o’r cysylltiadau band eang mwyaf cyflym a dibynadwy yn y byd, ond heb wneud hynny eto.
