Historic town has Surrey's best full fibre coverage
A historic town has the best ultrafast broadband coverage in Surrey, Openreach has revealed.
The UK’s biggest wholesale network provider has revealed the location in the county with the highest levels of full fibre coverage.
In Ewell, around more than nine out of every 10 homes and businesses are able to upgrade to ultrafast, ultra-reliable broadband through a provider of their choice on the Openreach network.
The Banstead and Burgh Heath area ranks second, with around nine out of every 10 properties also able to access full fibre. Thames Ditton, Epsom and Betchworth round off the top five locations.
More than 50 per cent of homes and businesses throughout Surrey are now able to upgrade to full fibre through Openreach.
Despite around 280,000 properties having access to the new network, thousands of people are missing out on better broadband, as just 38 per cent of those who could upgrade their service having done so.
Kieran Wines, Openreach Partnership Director, said: “Our amazing engineers and build partners have done a wonderful job to help us reach this milestone.
“This full fibre upgrade is a huge boost for Surrey. We’re adopting a balanced build, bringing ultrafast speeds to the region’s biggest towns as well as the most rural communities.
“People in the county should visit the Openreach website to see if they can upgrade to full fibre already or see when we’re coming to their area.”
Anyone wanting to see if they can upgrade can go to Openreach fibre checker to register for updates and check their postcode to see if services are available from their chosen provider. They can then contact their provider to upgrade.
The Openreach network offers the widest choice of providers, such as BT, Sky, TalkTalk, Vodafone and Zen, which means people have lots of choice and can shop for the best deals.
