Renfrewshire's most connected community revealed
People in Bishopton are the hungriest in Renfrewshire for ultrafast broadband, according to Openreach.
The UK’s biggest broadband network provider looked at areas across the region with the highest levels of full fibre broadband uptake where at least 1,000 properties could sign up.
Openreach confirmed that 66 per cent of people in Bishopton who could upgrade had done so.
However, while people in the village have been switching to ultrafast, ultra-reliable broadband, tens of thousands more across Renfrewshire are still missing out.
That’s despite Openreach engineers recently delivering full fibre to thousands more properties in Renfrew, Erskine and Paisley.
Robert Thorburn, Openreach Partnership Director for Scotland, said: “Full fibre is the future – it’s faster, more reliable and resilient, with fewer faults and more consistent speeds.
“Gaming, streaming, video calling, banking – everything people use broadband for is better with full fibre, with less buffering during busy times. Upgrades aren’t automatic, but if people place an order with their chosen providers to get connected, we’ll do the rest.
“Even if you think you have a decent enough service, it’s worth checking if you can upgrade, because full fibre provides the best broadband experience at great value for money.”
More than 43,000 homes and businesses across Renfrewshire can upgrade to ultrafast broadband – among 1.3m across Scotland covered by Openreach’s full fibre network.
Sara Thiam, Chief Executive at Prosper, said: “Research consistently shows that ultrafast broadband gives businesses an edge and provides families and home-workers with future-proof connectivity. It can have a huge impact on people’s lives, which isn't just great for the local economy but better for the environment.
“With so much of Renfrewshire now covered, there’s significant scope for the area to benefit positively.”
The company plans to build full fibre to 25 million UK homes and businesses by the end of 2026, with an ambition to reach up to 30 million by the end of the decade.
