Openreach bringing Full Fibre broadband to more Tweedbank homes

Openreach is extending its Full Fibre network to reach more properties in Tweedbank, giving residents and businesses access to some of the fastest and most reliable broadband anywhere in Europe.

The latest investment builds on Openreach's wider Full Fibre programme across the Galashiels area. Work began in 2021 and more than 8,300 local homes and businesses can already upgrade to Full Fibre broadband.

Openreach is now confirming plans to extend its Full Fibre network to a few hundred more premises in Tweedbank, following a detailed assessment of the viability of building in the area.

Engineering work is due to begin shortly, with the rollout focused on properties in the TD1 3 postcode area. It’s expected to be completed within the next six months.

This once-in-a-generation Full Fibre upgrade will let local people connect multiple devices at gigabit-capable speeds and help businesses trade online and compete for decades to come.

Robert Thorburn, Openreach Partnership Director, said: "We're pleased to confirm plans to bring Full Fibre broadband to a few hundred more homes and businesses in Tweedbank, extending one of the UK's most advanced digital networks to more people in the community.

"Work is due to begin shortly and is expected to be completed early in 2027.

“This is a major infrastructure upgrade, so there will be more engineering teams, equipment and vans around town, and we'll be working hard to keep disruption to a minimum.

“Wherever possible, our engineers will use our existing network of ducts and poles, but there will be some roadworks and a small number of new poles as part of this work.”

Openreach’s full fibre network aims to build the best digital future for the UK and now reaches more than 23 million properties, and the company plans to extend this to 25 million homes and businesses.
