Number one ultrafast broadband hotspot in Oxfordshire revealed
A popular market town has the best ultrafast broadband coverage in Oxfordshire according to Openreach
The UK’s biggest wholesale network provider has revealed the location in Oxfordshire with the highest levels of Full Fibre coverage.
In the historic market town of Witney on the River Windrush in West Oxfordshire, nearly 70% of all homes and businesses are able to upgrade to ultrafast, ultra-reliable Full Fibre broadband through a provider of their choice on the Openreach network. Other locations on the top ten list include Abingdon, Banbury, Bicester, Blewbury, Childrey, Longworth, Stratton Audley, Thame and Wantage.
Nearly 88,000 homes and businesses across the county can now access Full Fibre broadband from dozens of providers using the Openreach network.
To date, more than £26 million[1] has been invested in upgrading Oxfordshire’s new Full Fibre network – and the build is continuing. Adderbury, Bloxham, Carterton, Freeland, Kidlington, Marcham and Summertown are just some of the locations across the county where Openreach engineers are currently building the network. Build in the Oxford exchange area will start later this year.
And the new technology is being taken up across the county at record rates. Around 50% of all homes and businesses which have the upgraded service available have taken a service.
Openreach’s partnership director for the South East, Kasam Hussain said: “Our amazing engineers and build partners have done a wonderful job to help us reach this significant milestone.
“This Full Fibre upgrade is a huge boost for the county and the wider region. We’re adopting a balanced build, bringing ultrafast speeds to the region’s biggest cities and towns as well as the most rural communities.
“People in Oxfordshire should visit the Openreach website to see if they can upgrade to Full Fibre already or see when we’re coming to their area.”
Anyone wanting to see if they can upgrade can go to openreach.co.uk/ultrafastfullfibre to register for updates and check their postcode to see if services are available from their chosen provider. They can then contact their provider to upgrade.
The Openreach network offers the widest choice of providers, such as BT, Sky, TalkTalk, Vodafone and Zen, which means people have lots of choice and can shop for the best deals.
You can find out more about the benefits of an upgrade to Full Fibre broadband on the Openreach website.
