Broadband upgrade for Havering flats and apartments

Openreach has joined forces with the London Borough of Havering to make full fibre broadband available to more than 1,300 of flats and apartments.

The agreement will see faster, more reliable broadband made available to properties across 64 buildings in the Borough.

This forms part of a wider programme that is expected to expand over time to approximately 115 buildings, benefiting around 2,500 homes.

Full fibre technology offers a faster, more reliable broadband connection. The once-in-a-generation technology enables locals to connect multiple devices at gigabit-capable speeds and will help businesses trade online and compete for decades to come.

“We’re thrilled to be working with the London Borough of Havering on this significant broadband upgrade,” said Nick Hibberd, Openreach MDU professional.

“Working together is a crucial step in making sure that residents across Havering have access to some of the best broadband available anywhere in the UK.

“The upgrades are not automatic, so once full fibre is available, tenants should contact their broadband provider, place an order to get connected, and we’ll do the rest.”

The flats and apartments will join more than 90,000 homes and businesses across Havering that already have access to full fibre through Openreach.

However, just over 30 per cent of those who could upgrade have done so, meaning many are missing out on a faster, more reliable service.

Openreach’s full fibre network now reaches more than 22 million properties, and the company plans to extend this to 25 million homes and businesses by the end of 2026, with a belief it can reach as many as 30 million by the end of the decade – with the right investment conditions.
