Broadband upgrade for 2,000 Perth and Kinross flats
Openreach has joined forces with Perth and Kinross Council to make full fibre broadband available to 2,000 flats and apartments.
The agreement will see faster, more reliable broadband made available to flats across 250 buildings, including in Perth, Crieff, Blairgowrie and Pitlochry.
Full fibre technology offers a faster, more reliable broadband connection. The once-in-a-generation technology enables locals to connect multiple devices at gigabit-capable speeds and will help businesses trade online and compete for decades to come.
“We’re thrilled to be working with Perth and Kinross Council on this significant broadband upgrade,” said Gary Brown, Openreach MDU Manager.
“Working together is a crucial step in making sure that residents across Perth and Kinross have access to some of the best broadband available anywhere in the UK.
“The upgrades are not automatic, so once full fibre is available, tenants should contact their broadband provider, place an order to get connected, and we’ll do the rest.”
Economy and Infrastructure Convener Councillor Grant Laing said: “Reliable, high‑speed broadband is essential for modern life, whether that’s supporting local businesses, enabling flexible working, or helping residents stay connected to services, education and each other.
“This investment will help to reduce digital inequality, strengthen our local economy, and ensure that more communities can fully benefit from the opportunities that digital access provides. We warmly welcome this progress and look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have across Perth and Kinross.”
The flats and apartments will join more than 33,000 homes and businesses across Perth and Kinross that already have access to full fibre through Openreach.
However, just 50 per cent of those who could upgrade have done so, meaning many are missing out on a faster, more reliable service.

Openreach’s full fibre network now reaches more than 22 million properties, and the company plans to extend this to 25 million homes and businesses by the end of 2026, with a belief it can reach as many as 30 million by the end of the decade – with the right investment conditions.
