Openreach green driver of the year | Openreach

15 Jul 2018

Meet engineer Antony Swain

We have over 26,000 commercial vehicles on the road, giving us one of the largest vehicle fleets in the UK. So learning how to drive in ways that help save fuel and reduce our vehicles’ carbon emissions really benefits the environment. And saves on fuel costs.

Every year, we run a “green driver” competition. And this year was the 15th year we’ve run the competition to develop skills that help drivers reduce their carbon footprint.

"With 26,000 commercial vehicles on the road, reducing our impact on the environment is important and we all have our part to play"

Introducing this year’s winner

Engineer, Antony Swain, is this year’s green driver of the year.

Antony was one of 90 drivers who took part in one-to-one tuition to learn new, more fuel-efficient driving techniques. During the competition he achieved an average 51.5 miles per gallon.

Community and innovation manager Andy Scott says: “With 26,000 commercial vehicles on the road, reducing our impact on the environment is important and we all have our part to play.

“The finals were extremely competitive as the drivers were put through their paces across a number of challenging driving courses.”
