Broadband Boosts Our Economic Growth | Openreach

20 Aug 2018

Superfast broadband rollout creates value for the public

The UK Government just published an independent report showing the economic impact and public value that has been created through the rollout of superfast broadband.

The results are dramatic; a £9 billion surge in turnover for businesses benefiting from the faster connections.

Helping the Government’s ambitions

It’s great to see businesses across the UK reaping the benefits of faster broadband speeds. And I’m proud of the leading role that Openreach has played in helping to deliver the Government’s ambition for superfast broadband. It’s one of Britain’s great engineering achievements.

More than 95 per cent of the country can now order such services and we’re hugely encouraged to see that our investment is delivering economic benefits for the UK.

While we’re truly proud of our superfast broadband build, and we’ve reduced our wholesale prices to encourage greater adoption on this network, we’re also already building the next generation of future proof digital infrastructure for the UK.

Our ambition is to build faster, more reliable full-fibre broadband technology to three million front doors by 2020. And we’re already building in nine cities across the UK.

"It’s great to see businesses across the UK reaping the benefits of faster broadband speeds"

Whether it’s supporting the Government, the industry, our wholesale customers or millions of consumers and businesses across the UK – we believe everyone in the UK deserves decent and reliable broadband and to enjoy the benefits of the digital world.
