Project Gigabit

Project Gigabit is a UK government initiative delivering fast, reliable broadband to hard-to-reach rural areas.

Openreach is working in partnership with the UK government to make full fibre - the UK’s most reliable broadband technology - available to more than 297,000 homes and businesses across hard to reach rural areas.

The upgrades are part of Project Gigabit, the UK government-funded rollout of fast, reliable broadband targeting homes and businesses that might otherwise miss out.

These include parts of North and South West Wales, Scotland, Shropshire, Herefordshire, Devon, Somerset, Essex, North East England, Worcestershire, Lancashire, North Wiltshire, South Gloucestershire, West and Mid Surrey, Staffordshire, West Berkshire, Hertfordshire, as well as parts of Devon and Somerset.

In Scotland, the Scottish Government is managing Project Gigabit alongside its existing R100 programme.

Access to fast, reliable broadband is essential to our everyday lives.
