29 Jul 2020

Ultra-reliable, gigabit-ready Full Fibre broadband is going to be available to another 3.2 million homes and businesses in the hardest to reach parts of the UK by the mid-2020’s as part of Openreach's new plans.

We’re already well on the way to delivering reliable and fast broadband across the UK; over 3 million homes and businesses are already able to connect to Full Fibre broadband so it’s worth checking your postcode.

We’ve pledged to invest a massive £12 billion to connect more than 20 million premises over the coming years, including 3.2 million homes and businesses in harder to reach areas. See where we're building on our interactive map.

What is Full Fibre?

Full Fibre connects you directly to our network by fibre optic cable. This technology means that your connection will be capable of delivering speeds of up to 1GBps – ready for all your needs today and into the future.

Connecting communities

Rural and urban communities in 251 market towns and villages are to be connected as part of the latest plans, bringing significant economic, social and environmental benefits  including:

  • boosting productivity
  • bringing people back into the work force
  • allowing people to work from home
  • freeing people to move out of the cities
  • cutting commuting and carbon emissions and
  • connecting our families, public services and businesses for decades to come.

"This year we’ve all seen the importance of having a decent broadband connection at Openreach, we’re convinced that Full Fibre technology can underpin the UK’s economic recovery."
