What is Full Fibre and how does it work?

Full Fibre is the UK’s most reliable broadband technology. Unlike older copper-based networks, it uses fibre optic cables all the way from the exchange to your home or business. This gives you faster speeds and a more stable connection.

How Full Fibre is different

  • Fibre optic cables carry data using light, not electrical signals.
  • It connects directly to your property, instead of stopping at the cabinet in the street.
  • This reduces interference, making it much more reliable.

Full Fibre future - Putting a stopper to copper

The UK is moving away from copper-based broadband. Copper is slower, less reliable, and can’t support the growing demand for data. Full Fibre is designed to replace it, giving you a modern, future-proof service that won’t slow down as more people come online.

How it gets installed

When you order Full Fibre from your broadband provider, an Openreach engineer will visit to connect the fibre directly to your property. This may involve running a cable overhead or underground and installing new equipment inside your home.

Your provider will keep you updated about what to expect on the day.
