What does my fibre checker result mean?

When you enter your postcode and address into our fibre checker, you will get a result that shows the broadband services available to you right now, and sometimes what’s coming in the future.  We'll help you understand what the results mean and show you how to stay informed so you're the first to know when full fibre becomes available in your area.

Haven’t checked yet? Use our fibre checker to see what broadband services are available at your address.

If your result shows Full Fibre is available

Great news. This means you can already order ultrafast broadband, also known as Fibre to the Premises (FTTP). What’s next?

  • Contact your broadband provider and ask about their Full Fibre packages.
  • They’ll place the order with us, and an Openreach engineer will visit your home or business to get you set up.
  • Once you’re connected, you’ll usually see faster and more reliable speeds.

If your result shows Full Fibre is coming soon

This means we’re already working in your area, but it’s not quite ready to order yet.

  • We’re laying new fibre cables in the ground or on telegraph poles nearby.
  • You can register for updates by pressing ‘keep me updated’, so we’ll let you know when it’s ready to order.

If your result shows another broadband option is available

If Full Fibre isn’t ready yet, the checker will show you what’s available today. For example:

  • Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC): This means fibre runs to your local street cabinet, and copper cables connect the cabinet to your property.
  • Standard broadband: Delivered entirely through copper lines from the exchange to your home.

Speak to your service provider to find out more, they’ll be able to help you decide what the best broadband option is for you.

What should I do now?

Contact your service provider. They manage your order or repair and can:

  • Check the status of your appointment and find out what happens next
  • Rebook if necessary
  • Confirm your contact details are correct so you receive updates – check your messages and junk folders in case you've missed anything

If your result shows ‘Planned’ or ‘Exploring solutions’

Sometimes the checker will say we’re planning to build or exploring how to bring full fibre to your area.

  • This means we’re in the early design stages, so it may take longer before you can order full fibre.
  • We may be working with local authorities, community groups or government schemes to support the build.
  • Keep checking back, as these plans are updated when work progresses.
  • You can press the ‘keep me updated’ button on the checker to register your interest and be first in line to find out when full fibre is available.
