Openreach has confirmed it now provides Full Fibre broadband to 17 million homes and businesses – covering half of the UK. That’s thanks to a record year of network build and rising demand.
In 2024 alone, engineers connected an additional 4.2 million premises – equivalent to one every eight seconds.
From Shetland’s Isle of Unst to the Isles of Scilly, Openreach is connecting both cities and remote rural communities.
Over 4.3 million rural premises now have access to Full Fibre, helping close the digital divide.
UK broadband usage increased by 10.8% in 2024, reaching a record 103,590 Petabytes. Openreach’s network powered peak periods like:
