Openreach’s latest annual data shows UK broadband usage rose by 10.5% in 2024, with over 103,590 Petabytes (PB) of data consumed – the highest ever recorded.
December topped the charts as the busiest month, with streaming, gaming, and Black Friday deals all contributing to data surges.

Openreach’s network powers over 300 broadband providers, including BT, Sky, TalkTalk, Vodafone, and Zen.
UK broadband usage grew by 10.5%, reaching 103,590 Petabytes – the highest total ever recorded by Openreach.
Key contributors included Amazon Prime football, Fortnite updates, new gaming console setups, and Black Friday online shopping.
The busiest hours are typically between 8pm and 10pm, especially on Sundays.
Openreach’s Full Fibre network now covers over 17 million homes and businesses, with plans to reach 25 million by 2026.
