Full Fibre Fife: Broadband Rollout Expands to Three More Towns

6th Mar 2025

Broadband rollout Fife brings ultrafast speeds to St Andrews, Cardenden and Kinghorn

Openreach is bringing Full Fibre broadband to thousands of homes and businesses in St Andrews, Cardenden and Kinghorn, offering future-proof gigabit speeds and the UK’s most reliable broadband technology.

The first 2,000 properties across the three towns are now part of a wider rollout across Fife, where more than 100,000 homes and businesses already have access to Openreach’s network.

Despite half the Kingdom now being eligible, many properties have yet to upgrade and start enjoying the benefits of Full Fibre.

Residents can check their address and register for updates as new areas go live.

Why Full Fibre Fife is a game changer

Openreach’s Full Fibre upgrade in Fife delivers:

  • Gigabit-capable speeds for multiple devices
  • Fewer faults and consistent performance
  • Resilience during peak usage times
  • A long-term solution for growing digital demands

From streaming and gaming at home to video calls and digital business operations, fibre connectivity keeps everything running smoothly.

Building for the future with minimal disruption

Openreach Partnership Director Robert Thorburn said:

“We’re working hard to bring Full Fibre to more communities across Fife with as little disruption as possible. You’ll see more engineers and vans in the area, but we’re using existing ducts and poles wherever we can.”

Some locations may require new infrastructure like poles or underground cabling to ensure no home or business is left behind.

A digital milestone for Scotland

Openreach’s Full Fibre network now reaches more than 1.4 million Scottish premises, with a national ambition to:

  • Reach 25 million properties by 2026
  • Extend to 30 million by the end of the decade, with the right investment climate
