Last year we celebrated International Women’s Day with a complete take-over on our website. We then celebrated International Women in Engineering Day by launching a new series of blogs interviewing inspirational Openreach women. The first featured was Kim Mears, our MD of Strategic Infrastructure Development. Kim has since gone on to be awarded an OBE for services to the UK Communications Industry.
We’re modernising the way we deliver phone and broadband services across the UK. We’ll be moving from the traditional analogue phone network, known as the Public Switched Telephone Network, or PSTN, to newer digital technologies by December 2025.
A large proportion of our new Full Fibre network is already in rural areas and we want to go much further. We’re widening out our build programme to include 250,000 homes and businesses in more than 200 rural locations.
I’m proud to say that we’ve been keeping Scotland connected for more than 100 years and we’re fully invested in its future. We don’t just build in cities. Openreach is the only organisation truly tackling the delivery of fibre network in urban and rural areas – with impressive results.
