Openreach roadworks to get under way in Coatbridge

Summary
Contractors working on behalf of Openreach, Scotland’s digital network business, are due to start traffic-sensitive roadworks on the Shawhead to Carnbroe stretch of the A8 on Monday, 29 October 2018. The Shawhead Junction works will be carried out overnight to minimise disruption and are expected to last until Monday, 5 November, between the hours of 8pm and 6am.

Contractors working on behalf of Openreach, Scotland’s digital network business, expect to start traffic-sensitive roadworks on the Shawhead to Carnbroe stretch of the A8 on Monday, 29 October 2018.

The works are required to lay around two kilometres of dedicated, high bandwidth broadband cables to support businesses in the area. An eastbound lane closure is needed and the roadworks will be carried out overnight to minimise disruption to traffic. The A8 eastbound Shawhead Junction on-slip will be closed at the same time. The work is expected to last until Monday, 5 November, between the hours of 8pm and 6am.

Stephen Scanlon, Openreach’s streetworks consultant in the West of Scotland, said: “We need to carry out some major cable works on a junction that’s one of the busiest in the area. By working through the night, we’re aiming to minimise the impact these necessary works have on road users at the Shawhead junction.”

The traffic management plans have been approved by Amey Highways on behalf of the Scottish Roads Partnership.

Scottish Roads Partnership’s operations manager Graham Drummond said: “We’ve been working closely with Openreach to ensure that the works being undertaken will be carried out with minimum impact on local residents, road users and businesses.

“As always, we’d encourage road users travelling on this section of the road to plan ahead and to leave some extra time for their journey, if possible.”
