Mansfield MP gets to grips with Openreach broadband build

MP Ben Bradley has visited Openreach engineers as they start building a new Ultrafast Full Fibre broadband network across Mansfield.

With the town set to experience lightning-fast internet speeds, the MP took the opportunity to see first-hand how Openreach is delivering this game-changing technology.

The visit provided a unique insight into how the network will be built, as it’s made available to most homes and businesses, starting this summer.

Ben Bradley MP visited the telephone exchange on Pelham Street, to look at where the Openreach network starts. He was shown how the new network is being built, alongside the existing equipment, and even got to try his hand at ‘splicing’, which is joining two bits of fibre cable together.

Then it was on to Deakins Court – a new build housing estate in Mansfield – where the MP was able to see how engineers have already provided full fibre to hundreds of new homes.

Ben Bradley MP, said: “It was great to be out with Kasam and the team at Openreach, first to the old telephone exchange, and then out and about looking at the new kit they're starting to install for Mansfield's Gigabit broadband rollout. It’s amazing news that from about July time they'll begin connecting homes up to the new, latest and fastest broadband. Another major investment in Mansfield's infrastructure!”

The visit was hosted by Kasam Hussain, Openreach’s regional director for Central England, who said: “It was a fantastic visit with Ben Bradley. The future is bright for Mansfield with ultrafast speeds and unparalleled reliability just around the corner. Our dedicated engineers work hard every day to keep communities across Nottinghamshire and the wider region connected and they’ll be out in force to upgrade Mansfield to full broadband this summer.”

Openreach is leading the charge in building full fibre broadband that is faster, better and more affordable than ever.

With speeds reaching up to 1 Gbps, everyone can enjoy lightning-fast downloads, crystal-clear video calls, and seamless movie streaming in high resolution.

There’s also no more slowdowns or buffering. With full fibre, everyone can be online at the same time, streaming, gaming, or making video calls, without any interruptions. Residents can say goodbye to frustrating peak-time congestion and hello to uninterrupted entertainment in 4K.

Homes and business are urged to speak to their broadband provider about upgrading to full fibre so they can experience the difference in internet quality and reliability.

Mansfield was included in Openreach’s full fibre build in June 2021. Since then, engineers have been busy working there and in nearby Chesterfield, Newark, Nottingham and Worksop.

The company plays an important role across the East Midlands with more than 1,600 of our people living and working here.

Recent research from the Centre of Economics and Business Research (Cebr) also highlights the clear economic benefits of connecting everyone in the region to full fibre. It estimated this would create a £3.5 billion boost to the local economy.
