Become a specialist engineer

Help us to build our network

As one of our specialist fibre engineers you'll be out supporting us to roll-out our Full Fibre network.

This isn’t an office job and you won’t be tied to one location. You'll build good relationships with a team of third-party fibre engineers in your assigned area.  You'll be responsible for supervising and assessing and auditing the quality and progress of their work to ensure that installations are completed to a high standard and on time.

What makes a great specialist fibre engineer?

Openreach engineers have diverse backgrounds, with varied experiences. We’re looking for people with a willingness to get stuck in, an ability to connect with people, and who enjoy a physically demanding role.

The engineers you’ll supervise will be mobile therefore you'll need to be happy working outside whether it’s glorious sunshine or bracing the British weather. Our specialist fibre engineers are out supporting us to build our network.  You’ll need to be open to new technology. Nothing too scary and we’ll always support you, but you need to be comfortable using smart devices and ready to learn as new tools emerge. If you’re the type of person who always sees a job through and takes pride in doing it properly, are prepared to get your hands dirty, able to manage your time and your workload, then we want you to apply.

You'll need a good understanding of the fibre network (FTTP, FTTN). You'll also be able to demonstrate your practical competency working on the network. Plus you'll need a full manual driving licence – with no more than six points.
