Volunteering is a big part of working at Openreach
Volunteering is one of the ways we show our energy, passion and enthusiasm for contributing to the communities where we work. And we’re proud of our people’s commitment to making a difference. In 2018/19, 5,000 Openreach people took advantage of our volunteering policy and contributed more than 6,100 days to schools and not-for-profit organisations.
Encouraging volunteering at Openreach
We encourage all our people to get involved in fundraising and volunteering. And there are lots of opportunities, so there’s something for everyone – from simply donating to a food bank, to supporting a local hospice, or enrolling as a special constable or school governor.
Our charity partner – SSAFA, the armed forces charity
We work closely with SSAFA, the UK’s oldest national military charity. Since 1885 they’ve provided lifelong support to members of our armed forces and their families. Every year they help more than 65,000 people across the UK. Like us, SSAFA plays an important role in connecting communities.
Our people support SSAFA in different ways, from volunteering their time to organising fundraising events. And we’ve raised more than £180,000 for SSAFA since our partnership began back in April 2015. We help fund SSAFA’s confidential helpline “Forcesline”, which supports anyone in the armed forces family who needs emotional, practical or financial advice and support.
Every year around 20,000 servicemen and women leave the services and return to civilian life. We’re proud to say we’ve recruited over 3,000 leavers since 2010.
