Fibre to the Premises (FTTP)

As an industry, we are seeing requests from land developers of large residential 'Greenfield' sites for fibred homes, leading to the need for the development of services over networks based on Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) delivery.

This has major implications for end user experience and end user services as well as for Communications Providers (CPs).

Product Information

Openreach launched its Generic Ethernet Access (GEA) Fast Access over FTTP product at Ebbsfleet on 30th June 2008. Ebbsfleet Valley is a Greenfield site currently under development by Land Securities in the Thames Gateway, Kent. Ebbsfleet is expected to have around 10,000 End User premises and up to 9 million sq.ft. of commercial offices, retail, leisure and community facilities. Following the initial delivery at Ebbsfleet, Openreach will consider the rollout to other Greenfield sites across the UK where this is viable.

Further details of the Ebbsfleet Valley development or Land Securities can be accessed from these links. Please note these are external internet sites and Openreach is not responsible for the content.

Ethernet Access Direct (EAD) Flex, previously known as Dedicated Ethernet Access (DEA), provides High Use Fast Access over a Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) access network.  For consistency, Openreach is proposing to develop EAD Flex using Passive Optical Network (PON) infrastructure based on similar FTTP processes, systems and network interfaces.

EAD Flex will provide Communication Providers (CPs) with a range of Ethernet services starting at a 2Mbit/s for high use residential end users and entry level business applications, up to an initial 30Mbit/s using fibre PONs (final bandwidths to be confirmed).
