Ethernet Access Direct (EAD)Flex

In the UK, the demand for bandwidth is increasing every year. Government and UK businesses are calling for the communications industry to improve the delivery of the Broadband Britain vision.

Ethernet Access Direct (EAD) Flex, previously known as Dedicated Ethernet Access (DEA), has an important part to play in this vision.

Ethernet Access Direct (EAD) Flex Product information

Dedicated Ethernet Access (DEA) has been renamed Ethernet Access Direct Flex (EAD Flex) to align it with the Ethernet portfolio.  EAD Flex provides High Use Fast Access over a Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) access network.  For consistency, Openreach is proposing to develop EAD Flex using Passive Optical Network (PON) infrastructure based on similar FTTP processes, systems and network interfaces.

EAD Flex will provide Communication Providers (CPs) with a range of Ethernet services starting at a 2Mbit/s for high use residential end users and entry level business applications, up to an initial 30Mbit/s using fibre PONs (final bandwidths to be confirmed).

The EAD Flex concept is geared to provide maximum flexibility for CPs to differentiate bandwidth/service for a wide range of applications.  Openreach recognises that faster provision upgrades to service and a price competitive product are also important factors for our Ethernet customers.

EAD Flex provides an alternative means of taking service and a flexible range of bandwidths compared with point to point Ethernet services.  It is not intended that EAD Flex will replace other Openreach Ethernet services.
