Ethernet Access Direct (EAD) launch notification
updated: 25/03/2009This briefing on Ethernet Access Direct is for Ethernet Communications Providers.
This briefing is formal notification to our Communications Provider customers that, following the 28 day notification period, the Ethernet Access Direct (EAD) Local Access and EAD 1000 products will launch on 22nd April 2009.
Ethernet Access Direct (EAD) is a next generation network compatible service designed to complement Openreach's Ethernet Backhaul Direct (EBD) and Bulk Transport Link (BTL) products already offered within the Connectivity Services portfolio.
The EAD product has been developed to replicate and supersede, as a single product, the prevailing 10 Mbit/s, 100 Mbit/s and 1000 Mbit/s Ethernet Extension Services products: BES, BES Daisy Chain, WES, WES Local Access, WEES and WES / WEES Local Reach.
When all variants are launched (subject to Openreach governance), the EAD portfolio will consist of the following products:
EAD 10 Local Access
EAD 10
EAD Multiport Local Access
EAD 100 Local Access
EAD 100
EAD Multiport
EAD 1000 Local Access
EAD 1000 and EAD 1000 Extended Reach
EAD Multiport Extended Reach
Resilience Option 1 and Resilience Option 2 will be available for all products within the new EAD product portfolio.

Openreach plans to introduce the EAD product variants in a phased manner. Therefore
1) From 22nd April 2009, the following variants of EAD will be available to order:

2) The following EAD variants are expected to launch in June 2009, subject to Openreach governance and a separate formal notification:
• EAD 10 Mbit/s (EAD 10)
• EAD 100 Mbit/s (EAD 100)
• EAD Multiport
• EAD Multiport Local Access
Documents
To support the launch of this new product the following documents will be available on the Openreach website from 25th March 2009:
http://www.openreach.co.uk/orpg/products/ethernet/ead/ead.do
• Ethernet Access Direct product handbook
• Ethernet Access Direct customer requirement form (CRF) and SOX files
• Aggregation Node Site dataset (Dataset 52)
Suppliers Information Note (SIN) 492 will shortly be available from www.sinet.bt.com.
Note: Openreach intends to make the draft Suppliers Information Note (SIN493) for EAD Multiport available in advance of any formal notification to launch the EAD Multiport product variants.
Contract
The EAD product is being launched by Openreach under the Connectivity Services contract. This briefing notifies with 28 days notice amendments to that contract. These changes will be available to review from 25th March 2009 at http://www.openreach.co.uk/orpg/products/connectivityservices/connectivityservices.do
Site availability
When launched, EAD will be available from the majority of BT sites (serving exchanges). However, there are a number of BT sites that are not available for direct connection using EAD under the Connectivity Services contract. A list of these sites will be available from the Aggregation Node Site Dataset available from the EAD product webpage ( http://www.openreach.co.uk/orpg/products/ethernet/ead/ead.do).
Pricing
Each EAD circuit will attract a connection and annual rental charge that will vary depending on the type of circuit required. An additional Main Link charge is made for each circuit, calculated on the radial distance between the local serving exchanges. Main Link charges do not apply for circuits within the same local serving exchange area i.e. EAD Local Access.
Full pricing information for the EAD Local Access and EAD 1000 products will be notified on 25th March 2009 via ACCN OR0115. This will be available to be viewed from the Price Notifications area of the Openreach website ( http://www.openreach.co.uk/orpg/pricing/loadPricingNotifications.do) and will be applicable from 22nd April 2009.
