As you're aware, one of the main threats to our network is metal theft. This is a national problem that costs the UK economy £770 million a year. The cost to us and the wider BT Group also runs into millions.
Cable theft affects the connection of phones, TVs and broadband and can massively impact entire communities, isolating vulnerable people and in some cases limiting access to emergency services.
As copper prices continue to increase, so will the threat of theft.
We've been proactive in tackling this and are investing heavily in prevention methods. We've teamed up with outside agencies such as SmartWater and Crimestoppers to introduce new anti-theft technology and ensure that convictions can be made.
We're also working with other organisations, such as the British Transport Police and Network Rail to try and tackle this problem together, and we'd like to ask you to be vigilant and report anything that you feel may be suspicious to Crimestoppers.
