Sport Relief

The main campaign for Sport Relief 2012 has drawn to a close and with over £52 million being raised (and counting) it's the most successful yet.  Openreach has been heavily involved through supporting the BT Sport Relief Challenges, the BT Sport Relief Ball and through the many employee-led fundraising events.  Over £1 million has been raised by Openreach and BT, along with supplying all the telephony support (lines and manpower) during the telethon over the 23rd and 24th of March.

And we'd like to thank our generous customers and suppliers who've also contributed to this very worthy cause, which is saving and changing lives all around the world.

It all started back in September when David Walliams took on the Thames, swimming 140 miles over eight days.  John Bishop took on Challenge 2 at the end of February, accomplishing a gruelling 185 mile cycle, rowing the Channel and then running three consecutive marathons from Dover to London.  Finally, cricket ace Freddie Flintoff attempted to beat 14 Guinness World Records in 12 hours (he did 12) all for Sport Relief.

And finally, on 28 March over a thousand guests, including John Bishop and Freddie Flintoff, attended the BT Sport Relief Ball at the Grosvenor Hotel in London where they ate, drank, made merry and raised even more money for Sport Relief.  Brian Ferry and Will Young provided the headline entertainment while funny man Paddy McGuinness hosted the evening's events and auction.

It's been a tremendous privilege to be part of this amazing charity organisation and we look forward to doing it all again next year.

Sport Relief is an initiative of Comic Relief, registered charity 326568 (England/Wales); SC039730 (Scotland).

Sport Relief

With a unique history of extraordinary events, all the money raised by Sport Relief is used by Comic Relief to help transform the lives of people in the UK and in the world's poorest countries. Your money could be helping an old person to feel less isolated and lonely here, or helping a child go to school in Africa.
